CHARACTERFUL HOUSE
Although a farmstead is mentioned as early as the 14th century for the ‘Etzelnberg’ area, the present-day walls are likely to be considerably younger. The ‘Flarzhaus’ – as it is known in German – which has now been completely renovated, probably dates back to the 16th or 17th century. As far as history can tell, the house has always been occupied by its owners. Now, for the very first time, this exclusive living experience is also available to tenants. Viewed from the south, the wide row of windows catches the eye. From the 19th century onwards, so-called ‘Wagen’ provided the necessary daylight for home-based weaving work.
The imposing east façade is visible from afar and stands like a lighthouse at the edge of a terraced plot. It can even be seen from the opposite side of the lake.
Before the renovation, the linear half-timbered structure on the north side had no windows. The newly opened view towards Zurich now also brings the evening sun into the house. The striking front door, made of solid oak, completes the elegant overall picture.
PANORAMA 180°
As Thalwil lies on a bend in Lake Zurich, you can see almost the whole of the lake. The spectacular setting high up on the Etzliberg makes the whole scene even more impressive. The first settlers who founded the hamlet must surely have realised this too, and you can still sense it today – see for yourself.
The view stretching from Lake Zurich to Pfäffikon SZ is so vast that it can only be captured in a single image using the panorama function. There is plenty to discover: in summer, the lake is bustling with boats and sailing ships, whilst at night the scheduled ferries are lit up. Throughout the year, nature creates a wide variety of atmospheres. Some winter sunrises are just as spectacular as the menacing dark blue of the lake when thunderstorms are brewing.

Just a quarter of an hour from Zurich city centre, Thalwil and its surroundings offer not only economic advantages (municipal tax rate of 78 per cent, excellent links to public and private transport networks, countless shopping opportunities) but also many highlights that are rarely found in such concentration.

The town of Thalwil offers a wide range of activities and is a committed community: as one of the very first ‘Energy Cities’, it hosts the Thalwil Culture Days, the region’s annual ‘Chilbi’ and is home to around 150 clubs and associations spanning business, politics, culture and sport.
